In October 2021, Microsoft refreshed its unique two-screen mobile device. First released in September 2020, the Surface Duo created waves as the only foldable device with a metal hinge that allowed the two halves to be folded 360 degrees. The just-released Surface Duo 2 is a sleek redesign that improves on the revolutionary concept.
Enthusiastically received improvements in this update include a better camera package, 5G connectivity, a faster processor, larger screens, and a set of featured apps (including Mylio) that make the most of Surface Duo 2’s book-like design.

Like its predecessor, the Surface Duo 2 runs the popular Android operating system, which gives users access to the massive library of Android apps available in the Google Play store.
Among these apps, a small number have been specially optimized to make the most of the Surface Duo 2’s dual-screen experience. Microsoft chose to highlight Mylio, along with a handful of other optimized apps, on the updated mobile device. The featured apps are suggested during initial setup of the device. They can be found later by swiping to the second screen of available apps. Mylio is the only photo manager to be a featured app on the new Duo.
Featured apps on Surface Duo 2 include:
- Mylio Photo Manager
- Amazon Kindle
- Spotify
- TikTok
- Asphalt 9
Holding two separate, side-by-side screens in your hands offers unique opportunities that you can leverage while using apps like Mylio. Mylio’s development team has continued to improve on our support of both the Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2.
How does Mylio on Surface Duo 2 work?
Organize your photo library with two screens
On the Surface Duo 2, you can view your Mylio photo library’s organization on one screen and individual images on the other. This creates convenient new ways to manage your photos on this hand-held device. For instance, you can navigate on the left screen to an album and drag the image on the right screen across the seam into the album.
Edit your photos
When editing photos, one screen shows the image you are working on. The other offers a larger display of Mylio’s powerful editing tools. This expands the area for working with your images without compromising your experience of viewing all changes as you make them.

In addition to using Mylio on dual screens, Surface Duo 2 makes it easy to pair and launch any two apps at the same time. Each app appears on one screen. Try launching Mylio with Microsoft Lens PDF scanner, OneDrive, or OneNote. The opportunities are endless … and just scratching the surface (bad pun intended).
Of course, with the Surface Duo 2’s front- and rear-facing cameras, Mylio will automatically organize photos and videos taken on this device, along with photos and videos from other sources. Mylio seamlessly creates one consolidated, private photo library that you can conveniently browse and manage wherever you are.
